Bed and Breakfast Fire in Tuguegarao City (Graphic BEWARE)

At least 16 people, most of them nursing graduates, were killed in a fire that gutted a hotel in Tuguegarao City early morning Sunday.

Police and fire officials said nursing graduates, many of them from Santiago City in Isabela who were scheduled to take their licensure examination on December 19 and 20, were staying at the Bed and Breakfast Hotel and Restaurant on Mabini and Luna Streets here. The fire, which investigators suspected to have been caused by faulty wiring, broke out at past 1 a.m. (inquirer.net)

10 civilians killed in southern Afghanistan blast

KABUL, Afghanistan – NATO and Afghan officials say more than 10 civilians have been killed by a roadside bomb in southern Afghanistan.

A statement by the international coalition says several others were wounded in the blast, which occurred in a crowded area of the Nahr-e-Sarah district in Helmand province on Thursday.

Dauod Ahmadi, a spokesman for the Helmand governor, says a minibus hit a roadside bomb planted by the Taliban. Ahmadi said that 14 people were killed and wounded, but he could not say specifically how many were dead.

Helmand is among the Taliban stronghold provinces in southern Afghanistan. NATO has beefed up its forces in the area this year in a bid to quell the insurgency there.

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — The Taliban fired two rockets into the main U.S. base north of the Afghan capital early Thursday, while a NATO airstrike near the Pakistan border killed an insurgent commander and several other militants, the coalition said.

Master Sgt. Jason Haag, a NATO spokesman in Kabul, said "two rounds of indirect fire" hit Bagram Air Field before dawn, but had no additional details. Sher Mohammed Maldani, police chief for the Parwan province where the base is located, said there were no casualties reported. He said the insurgents fired and fled the scene.

Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid said by telephone that the insurgents shot two rockets into the base, which sits about an hour's drive northeast of Kabul. He said coalition forces sustained injuries, but offered no evidence to back up that claim.

East of Kabul, NATO said it killed two Taliban leaders in an airstrike targeting militants in Nangarhar province's Pachir wa Agam district along the Pakistan border.

The insurgents, identified as Sayid Rahman and Zehrie Gul, were involved in planning and conducting attacks against Afghan and coalition forces, according to NATO. The coalition said the group was believed to be coordinating suicide bombings in the area and may have been planning an attack on an Afghan border checkpoint. A number of other insurgents were also killed in Wednesday's strike, NATO said.

While the coalition has focused much of its efforts in the Taliban's strongholds in southern Afghanistan, NATO has also cast a wider net, targeting militants in the east along the Pakistan border.

Disgraced ex-Israeli president convicted of rape

JERUSALEM – An Israeli court has convicted former President MosheKatsav on two counts of rape.

Thursday's conviction means Katsav will face a minimum of four years in prison. The verdict marks the climax of a four-and-a-half year saga that has riveted the nation as it watched its top citizen face the most serious charges ever leveled toward an Israeli public official.

The 65-year-old Katsav is also facing charges of lesser sex crimes involving two other former employees. A verdict on those charges is expected later in the day.

Israel's presidency is a largely ceremonial position. But the allegations roiled the country by portraying the man supposed to be Israel's moral compass as a predatory boss who forced himself on female employees.

Katsav resigned in 2007 and was replaced by Shimon Peres.

North Korea Bombs South Korea!

South Korea says it has returned fire after claiming around 200 North Korean artillery rounds hit one of its islands.

Seoul says the country is on its highest non-wartime alert and F16 fighter jets have been scrambled to the location.

At least South Korean 14 soldiers were reportedly hurt, including four seriously, and around 60 to 70 houses were ablaze after the shelling.

The rounds landed on Yeonpyeong island and also went into the sea near the countries' disputed western border.

South Korea says its troops then returned fire.

South Korean President Lee Myung-bak has held an emergency meeting following the incident.

He said he was trying to prevent the exchange of artillery fire from escalating into a greater conflict.

YTN television reported that Seoul had warned of a stronger response if the North continued with provocations.

At least 375 people have been killed in a stampede during a concert in the capital of Cambodia. Huge crowds had gathered on a small island for the final day of the Water Festival, one of the country's largest public events. Most of the victims were crushed, while others drowned trying to flee an overcrowded bridge. The Cambodian Prime Minister called it the nation's biggest tragedy since the Khmer Rouge mass killings of the 1970s.

BIG SNAKE EATS MAN ALIVE !!!

"Oh my god, can't imagine someday you place yourself in a giant snake bell. Human ate them, and now they return to eat human. I used to think it's just scared movie, but..."

The pictures below allegedly document a recent incident of a snake eating a person. The accompanying stories vary as to victim (local child, camper, or oil rig crew member) and location (South America with the snake an anaconda, Borneo, and Singapore). The snake is a reticulated python. 

The two pictures below obviously are of poorer quality and detail than the ones above. The pictures above also seem to have been in circulation several years before the ones below appeared. The lump appears to be of a stocky animal such as a pig rather than of a person. The person's body has very little mucus on it for having been inside a snake. Those who keep snakes well know how slimy food items get, especially when a snake regurgitates. It's difficult to ascertain where his arms are; one of them should be lying right along his side, since they would have to fold that way during the snake's feeding. His arms may be extending up into the snake to open a path for his head and chest. The upper torso appears to be within a bag inside the snake. The python's stomach and/or intestine also seem to have disappeared. Most experts suspect that these were staged photographs, though I have to give the man credit for crawling that far into the snake. In any event, no news service has ever carried a story relating to these photographs … and it would have made a great story. Some Internet sites with information on these pictures are: 
The picture below was taken in Malaysia and printed in a local magazine there. The reticulated python could not completely eat the person. An adult human's shoulders present a real obstacle to the biggest snake. Whether the person already was dead or was killed by the snake remains unknown.

Poor the man, we're all regret for such accidents. Hope our human will be careful when coming to jungle or somewhere cruel like that. Lesson: equip yourself to be ready for face to face case, be always with someone or group to have the strength to protect yourself from fear and injury.
